Still sketching designs to fill in the rest of my justice league piece... New for this version is... SHAZAM!
Holy Moly! look at that luxurious beard!
I know that he is officially called captain Marvel but I really don't feel like calling him that. Out of all the individuals that his letters stand for, not one of them screams "captain" to me. There is no reason whatsoever for him to be a "captain"... but he does have the power of Shazam. He has to say Shazam to get his powers. He doesn't lose them if someone ELSE says it (as far as I know)... SO as far as I'm concerned, for this version of him... I will simply call him Shazam.
Design thoughts were basic...

And ya know what 5 of those usually have in common? A beard, long hair and being jacked like a beast!
If little Billy's powers "magically" appear from a bunch of ancient heroes when he shouts a "magic" word that "magically" transforms him into an adult then well... I figure that it can "magically" grow him a beard to go with it all. Shazam should just have a beard dude. I mean come on, look at those names! Look at the cultures those names belonged to. BEARD!!!! nuff said.
Next of course was the costume itself... Ancient, and powerful... Let me just say that again... Ancient and powerful... I literally looked at the inspiration of the name AGAIN, then applied the traditional costume colors. I almost went so far as to make his cape out of fur but I held back a little bit. There really isn't much to explain here, the tunic collar, cape attachment, boots, and skirt are all cross culturally appropriate from ancient Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Greece and eventually Rome... so I think that it's a safe amalgam of what he is supposed to be. The only mysterious thing about it should be the belt buckle... but hey... Magic, Solomon, Wizards and rocks of eternity right?

To me, this picture looks like the Wizard, but back in his youth when he was active. Later, he would give his title (i.e. "Shazam") and powers to a brash young boy in the modern age, and he would be the "new" Shazam. Of course, the modern Shazam's look would be based on Billy Batson's sensibilities, so Shazam's modern look would be based on the typical style of your average, modern-day super-hero...
And when Billy retires in the distant future, known simply as "the Guardian", pass along his old title and powers to a new person, to be that era's Shazam, the look would be futuristic (i.e. in a TRON LEGACY sort of way)? Some young hacker typing "trans.SHAZAM.exe" to change into this version of Shazam...?
Anyway, good job of the art, as well as the reasons for the look. Kudos!
